BUCKINGHAM Palace was put into lockdown last night after a man threw suspected shotgun cartridges at its gates.
The area around the Queen Victoria monument was evacuated as specialist officers carried out a controlled explosion.
Security services are on high alert ahead of the biggest operation in 70 years for the King's historic coronation on Saturday. Metropolitan Police officers said the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
The incident came just hours before 7,000 armed forces personnel were due to start the final full rehearsal for the King's Coronation, just after midnight.
