Mum haunted by girl's torment

BRIANNA Ghey's mum yesterday told how knowing her helpless daughter would have been gripped with fear as she was attacked by two thugs will forever haunt her.

Esther Ghey's harrowing words came as pals Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe were warned they may never be freed after being jailed for life for stabbing the transgender teenager to death in a frenzied park attack.

The twisted 16-year-olds were unmasked for the first time yesterday as a judge ruled they could be named.

They lured Brianna to the park last February before stabbing her 28 times in daylight with a hunting knife.

The vulnerable youngster, who rarely went out alone, believed Jenkinson was her friend.

Esther, 37, said in her victim impact statement: "All I can think about is that she would have been scared and I wasn't there for her.

"She needed me to protect her, Brianna wasn't a fighter and she must have been so terrified. Brianna's dad Peter Spooner, 41, branded the pair "pure evil".

He said: "No amount of time spent in prison will be enough for these monsters." And her sister Alisha, 18, told how losing her sibling was "indescribably painful".
