UNIONS are this morning braced for news of thousands of job losses at Britain's biggest steelworks.
Multiple sources told the Mirror an announcement is due today on the future of Tata's steel plant in Port Talbot, South Wales.
The Government is pump expected to £500million of taxpayers' cash into the site to help the company switch from blast furnaces to the less polluting electric arc furnaces.
And after months of negotiations, Indian-owned Tata is poised to invest £700m.
But the greener prodcuction requires much less manpower and the Mirror understands that at least 2,000 jobs are set to go from around 4,000 in total.
Welsh Secretary David TC Davies and Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch are expected to visit the site today to talk up the deal.
