SUNK IN JUST SIX MINUTES

THE poignant archive of a Royal Navy commander whose ship was sunk by the German battleship Bismarck is up for sale, 83 years on.

Captain Ralph Kerr CBE was killed along with 1,415 of his men when HMS Hood went down in May 1941.

The 46,000-ton battle cruiser sunk in the Denmark strait in just six minutes and would become the Navy's worst disaster of the Second World War.

It prompted Winston Churchill's famous order to "sink the Bismarck".

Capt Kerr, 49, a veteran of the Battle of Jutland, went down with his ship.
