Twin who died after butt lift op 'wasn't fully aware of risks'

A MENTAL health worker who died while having a Brazilian butt lift operation in Turkey was not fully aware of the risks she faced, a coroner has said.

Melissa Kerr, 31, had paid £3,200 for the procedure at the private Medicana Haznedar Hospital in Istanbul.

But an inquest heard she was only given "limited information regarding the risks and mortality rate" associated with the procedure.

Senior coroner Jacqueline Lake has vowed to write to Health Secretary Steve Barclay to warn of the dangers of cosmetic surgery overseas.

Ms Lake told the hearing: "Ms Kerr wasn't seen by a surgeon or clinician prior to the date of the procedure.

"She underwent a limited assessment prior to the procedure and was provided with limited information regarding the risks and mortality rate." Ms Kerr died on November 19, 2019, after injected fat harvested from elsewhere on her body entered a vein and blocked her pulmonary artery.
