FURY AS BURST PIPE SPEWS SEWAGE INTO MAJOR SCOTS RIVER

Grim images from last week in Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, show paths and roads filled with wastewater and sewage debris including loo roll.

Villager Stuart Caven says he believes a pipe pumping human waste into Thornhill Sewage Treatment Works is burst in five places.

He said it's been routinely "spewing" into a burn feeding into the River Nith and flooding woods. He said: "I'm just gutted about it as a local because we walk dogs in that wood, you have dogs running through it."

It follows news the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has received thousands of complaints about our waterways since 2019.
