FURY AS FIRM RAKES IN £11BN BP 'destroying planet in the name of profit

BP HAS been accused of “destroying our planet in the name of profit” after posting eye-watering earnings of £11billion last year.

It sparked calls for a “watertight” new windfall tax on oil and gas giants to stop them profiteering off sky-high fuel bills.

BP earned a staggering £349 per second in 2023 – while Scots continued to struggle with energy costs and nearly a million households battled fuel poverty.

Despite the cash bonanza, campaigners slammed the London-based multinational’s lack of investment in green energy – accusing it instead of “prioritising its shareholders”.

They claimed its “reckless” £10billion in payouts to shareholders could “cover the projected cost of natural disasters for the next seven years in the UK”.
