STEVE CLARKE and his men will be heroes if they qualify from their Euros group, says Archie Macpherson.
Archie, 89, has been the voice of six World Cups and four Euros but not once has he got to hail Scotland getting past the first hurdle.
Now he believes Clarke's team can do what legends such as Denis Law, Archie Gemmell and Kenny Dalglish could not.
The TV legend said: "If they could get through they'll be heroes.
"I'm looking forward to the Euros as it revives memories. It's 50 years ago almost to the day I set off for the first of my many excursions with Scotland for the 74 World Cup.
"It was the same country, Germany and, as with six World Cups and two Euros, I was coming back with the same sad story of not being able to qualify out of our group and go forward and do something.
"Just think of the quality of the players we had. Law, Bremner, Dalglish, Souness, Strachan, Jordan.
"It means that history is heaped on the shoulders of this squad."
