A SCOTS football fan became critically ill in Poland after jumping into water to “cool off”.
Liam Fullerton visited the country on July 6 to watch the 1-1 friendly between his club Dundee FC and Polish side Lech Poznan.
But the 30-year-old suffered severe leg wounds after he leapt off a bridge into the water, smashing into rocks below.
Liam, from Dundee, was discharged from hospital after treatment but became seriously unwell while trying to board his flight home on Sunday.
He was rushed back to A&E where medics discovered he was in septic shock and further diagnosed him with gangrene.
Liam underwent a number of operations to his wounds in a bid to flush the infection from his body.
But after failed attempts to stabilise him, doctors in Poznan decided to have him airlifted to a hospital 200 miles away near Gdansk, where clinicians specialise in wound bacteria.
