A LOYALIST was rerouted walk after protesters in balaclavas showed up to guard a Catholic church where a priest was spat on.
Glasgow City Council faced a backlash after allowing the loyalist group The Bridgeton Apprentice Boys of Derry to march past the church yesterday.
Protesters gathered outside St Alphonsus in the city's Calton, many with signs reading, "No antiCatholic marches past Catholic churches." There were fears over a confrontation as protesters spilled out into the city's London Road.
Police then moved to reroute the march amid safety fears. It took place without any arrests.
