DOCTOR Who companion Millie Gibson is being dropped from the BBC sci-fi show for Ncuti Gatwa’s second series.

She will be replaced by Varada Sethu after the airing of the eight episodes which she has already filmed alongside 15th Doctor Ncuti.

The decision by Russell T Davies to write out former Coronation Street star Millie, who plays orphan Ruby Sunday, was made last year after filming on her first run ended.

The twist will come as a surprise to fans who only watched her debut in the festive episode last month.

Ruby's arc is expected to be wrapped up in a standalone story in next year's series.

New companion Varada has already started filming at the studios in Cardiff.
