A CHURCH has been blasted after a pastor preached allegedly anti-women views "straight out of The Handmaid's Tale".

The storm blew up after it was revealed that the pastor at Rosyth Baptist Church has been preaching material that makes a mockery of Humza Yousaf's current efforts to end sexism in Scotland.

A sermon by Reverend Chris Demetriou, "Submit and Love" claimed: A wife "should submit to her husband's leadership" because "that's the Lord's pattern for us".

Marriage with a wife at the head "will not reach its full potential".

A woman will duly submit to a man "out of obedience to Christ".

The preachings, which take literal lessons from the Old Testament, have attracted the fury of the National Secular Society, which has been campaigning to prevent bodies with "extreme" and potentially harmful religious views becoming charities.

The organisation has complained to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, claiming the sermon was "misogynistic, discriminatory against women and perpetuates sexist tropes".

OS has previously fielded complaints about anti-female views in churches, claiming the advancement of religion allows for non-mainstream views to be preached.
