Years ago, there was a big gulf between Brighton, my own club (I’m a fan, I mean, I haven’t bought it), and theirs: Spurs and Chelsea respectively.
These days, the joke is how Chelsea in particular keep coming for our players, and even our previous boss, Graham someone-or-other.
That, plus the fact that those players, having been enticed to London for crazy money, have had an uncanny habit of underperforming.
“We think your technical director fits them with a chip,” suggests Paul, “so they’re only about 20% as good as they were.”
