Parents' call to police to end knife scourge

MP writes to chief constable over families' fears for children

PARENTS in central Manchester are ‘deeply worried about the safety of their families’ after a spate of knife crime incidents and the death of a teenager, an MP has said.

Afzal Khan, the Labour MP for Manchester Gorton, has written to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Stephen Watson, to request an urgent face-to-face meeting.

He said the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Ibraheem Ali, who died after he was rushed to hospital from a street in Levenshulme last month, represented ‘another life taken too soon’.
