MORE than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the territory's Hamas-run Health Ministry said yesterday.

It comes after fresh Israeli air strikes overnight on Saturday into yesterday killed at least 26 Palestinians, including a Hamas political leader and several women and children.

Israel's military also sent ground troops into parts of the southern Gaza city of Rafah yesterday, as thousands of Palestinians fled after new evacuation orders.

Israel ended the latest ceasefire in Gaza last week with an unexpected wave of air strikes that killed hundreds of people, and it has also launched ground incursions in northern Gaza. It says it is targeting militants.
