ARGYLE OWNER COMMISSIONED SPECIAL PAINTING
ANDY PHILLIPS
Argyle masterpiece is Pollard's latest artwork

TWO Plymouth icons were brought together this week as renowned city artist Brian Pollard spent an evening at a Barbican gallery signing copies of his new Argyle-themed artwork.

The artwork depicting the iconic white and green facade on one side of the Pilgrims’ Home Park stadium had been commissioned by Argyle owner and chairman Simon Hallett and his wife Jane.

Mr and Mrs Hallett were among the first at the event which was held by Kaya Gallery on Southside Street – which is run by lifelong Argyle fan Chris Warne and his wife Dianne.

Dr Pollard’s signature colourful style picks out Argyle fans outside the ground and in front of the facade, which was once a turnstile and is now the entrance to the club shop.

A view of the waterfront can be seen over the ground, while he has added details including the new Jack Leslie statue – albeit repositioned from its actual location at the other side of the stadium.

Art aficionados and Argyle fans alike attended, with a long queue forming through the gallery for the signed pieces.

Dr Pollard not only personally signed copies of prints at the event, but created individual doodles on the back of each one for buyers.

Dr Pollard – a trained pharmacist who also worked as a doctor until 2005 – said it took him a while to work out a composition that could include the football stadium with plenty of people and life in it.
