A FORMER Herald sports reporter turned novelist has used personal experience and study to inspire his latest book, which tells the story of the persecution of disabled Jews during the Holocaust.
Glenn Bryant, who lived and worked in Plymouth from 2004 to 2015, is the author of Darkness Does Not Come At Once, which has just been released by The Book Guild.
The book takes readers on an emotional journey through the life of Meike, who is aged 17 and uses a wheelchair.
Glenn said: “Already in life she has accepted that she will always somehow be ‘different’ – but, overnight, ‘different’ becomes dangerous after the government announces disabled youngsters under the age of 18 must spend the war in specially designated institutions.
“Suddenly Meike is on the run in the rural lanes she calls home, bordering Berlin. It is 1939 and the whole of Germany, it seems, wants to fight the world.
