Bottom placed Mannamead stun leaders Menheniot

IN Division 2 of the Ladies, bottom placed Mannamead B fielded their full team for only the second time this season and after a long evening of excellent tennis, were able to inflict the only defeat of the season so far on league leaders Menheniot A.

Mannamead's Linda Trebilcock and Sue Gale played well to beat Menheniot's second pair and then had a very hard fought clash against Menheniot's Lucy Matthews and Tam Hemming with Lucy and Tam winning the tie-break for the second set and also coming out victorious in the championship tie-break.

Meanwhile, Mannamead's Roanna George and Sue Newberry fought back against Debbie Smith and Jan Santillo after losing the first set to win the second set tie-break and the championship tie-break enabling Mannamead to take the win 51-49, which took them off the bottom of the table.

Tavistock A's second pair had lots of deuces against Plympton A's Fiona Crutchley and Nicky Trevaskis and it was Plympton who won the big points.

Tavistock's first pair were just too strong for both Plympton pairs although Fiona and Nicky were starting to find their way in the second set forcing a tie-break. A close match between the second pairs resulted in two tie-breaks being played to decide the outcome with Tavistock winning 54-36, while Yelverton B found Plympton B too strong on the night losing 71-15.

Plympton C had a tight contest when they faced Tavistock B, in Division 3, with three events going to Championship tie-breaks.

Tavistock came out eventual winners 55-37, with Plympton's Pam Ellis and Claire Walker remaining unbeaten.

In Division 4, Menheniot B were too strong for Yelverton C winning 72-15, and remain well clear at the top of the table, while Ivybridge B beat St Mellion A 61-29.

In Division 5, Saltash A had a good win against Looe B although the weather meant they played on the hard courts instead of the grass.

There were a couple of championship tie-breaks, which Saltash won, helping them to an overall 65-27 win.
