Firm fined after man lost leg on company machine

A HYDRAULICS company has been issued with a huge fine after an employee became trapped in a machine at a customer's premises in Plymouth and lost his leg.

David Lawrence, 63, was fault finding on a laser cutting machine for Pearson Hydraulics Ltd in July 2023 when the machine's cutting bed dropped and trapped both of his legs.

The engineer was rushed to hospital where he spent five weeks undergoing treatment. He eventually had to have his right leg amputated above the knee. His other leg underwent extensive surgery to save it but Mr Lawrence still faces the possibility that it may also need to be removed.
