REDUCED ASKING PRICE AS OWNERS SEEK TO RETIRE
ONE of Plymouth's most stylish and popular independent hotels is to be sold at auction for a knock-down £1.5 million.
The Grade II listed Invicta Hotel, on the Hoe, will go under the hammer on November 19, after failing to sell when placed on the market at £2.25 million.
The Lockyer Street building initially went on sale in May 2022 when Roy and Betty Martin, who had run the four-star establishment for 20 years, decided to retire. Two and a half years later, the freehold is being auctioned by Savills with a guide price of £1.5 million - just days after Plymouth's register office, across the road, sold at auction for £827,000.
The Georgian edifice, Plymouth's oldest lodging house, dating back to 1852, was designed in 1842 by the famous architect John Foulston, who also designed many other Plymouth landmarks, including Devonport Guildhall and the original Plymouth Athenaeum.

It's my life and I have the right to choose my death
MRS Keogh writes in her letter to The Herald (November 27) that she thinks assisted dying is really assisted suicide, a small semantic point that she believes betrays society's real intent; which is to bump off the inconvenient elderly.
