Pilgrims dig deep to turn a deficit into a dramatic late victory
The Herald|December 04, 2023
HERE are the player ratings of Herald Sport’s Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the last-gasp 2-1 win against Stoke City at a jubilant Home Park.
Pilgrims dig deep to turn a deficit into a dramatic late victory

Mike Cooper 7 - A poor clearance from the keeper led to Stoke winning back possession and Tyrese Campbell scoring in the 23rd minute but he made a crucial save when his team really needed it in the second half with the score at 1-1.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden 7 - Put in a strong performance at right-back with a number of important tackles, perhaps most notably in the second half when he made a perfectly-timed sliding challenge on Bae Jun-ho just as Stoke’s South Korean attacker was about to shoot.

Dan Scarr 6 - Recalled to the team to play in central defence because Steven Schumacher wanted his physical presence to combat Stoke’s more direct style of play. Looked uncomfortable at times in the ball as Argyle were pressed high up the pitch by the Potters but he settled into the game as it went along.

Lewis Gibson 6 - Was caught out for Stoke’s goal, although clearly there was no warning for him from any of his team-mates that Tyrese Campbell was making a run behind him as Ryan Mmaee returned from an offside position. Gibson made amends in the second half with a vital block when Campbell had another good shooting opportunity.
