IT has been a challenging start to the 2024/25 campaign for head coach Wayne Rooney and his Plymouth Argyle squad as they have picked up just two points from their opening four Championship games.

Pilgrims gear up for a challenging sequence

And it is not going to get any easier for the 22nd-placed Pilgrims when they return to league action after the first international break of the season. Four of their next five fixtures are against sides currently in the top six of the Championship, starting against table-topping Sunderland at a sold-out Home Park this Saturday.

Argyle will also play away to West Bromwich Albion (2nd) and Burnley (6th), and host Blackburn Rovers (5th) before the next international break in October. The only non-top six side they will face before then is Luton Town, who were relegated from the Premier League last term and have just one point so far.
