The students of MASM VHSS, Venmanad, from Thrissur, who participated in arabana muttu in the HSS category, could not hide their joy after they were awarded an A grade and five points. The boys, who donned the traditional white dhoti and kurta with heads covered with white scarves, began performing outside the venue, before the media, to display their happiness after the results were announced.
The reason for their feverish celebration was that they had nosed ahead of their arch-rivals Aleemul Islam HSS, Padoor, who had pipped them in the district arts festival. Padoor and Venmanad are just five kilometres apart, but their rivalry knows no bounds. After Padoor school earned the ticket to the state fest, Venmanad school went for an appeal.
