FORMER Newcastle manager Graeme Souness is a fully paid-up member of the Eddie Howe fan club after the Toon's sensational 4-1 thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week.

But he has warned about the effects extra matches and travelling could potentially have on Newcastle's quest for domestic and European glory.

Souness is full of admiration for the St James' Park boss and believes the squad assembled by Howe has the quality and character to match the ambitions of the fans.

Speaking on behalf of Sky Bet, Souness said: "I think they can have another fantastic season by attacking the Champions League and qualifying again via a top-four finish. The demands are enormous now.

"However, now they are finishing on a Saturday or Sunday and focusing on Tuesday or Wednesday.
