The original Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM was one of the first three G Master lenses that Sony ever produced for its Alpha full-frame mirrorless cameras. It was well received and I was so impressed that I gave it a five-star review rating. It's a terrific lens that's ideally suited to portraiture and still-life photography. However, things have moved on in the past eight years and Mark Il aims to answer a couple of criticisms that have arisen over time. Some photographers felt that the lens was a bit on the weighty side and that autofocus could be quicker. Sony has taken the feedback on board and used it in the design of the Mark II edition of the lens, which aims to be one of the best lenses for Sony cameras.
