Diana Pundole from Pune broke the glass ceiling by becoming the first female driver to win a championship title as the curtains came down on an action-packed fourth and final round of the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Car Racing Championship 2024, powered by Storm-X at the Madras International Circuit in Chennai on August 18. Teenagers Jaden Rahman Pariat from Shillong and Bengaluru's Abhay Mohan emerged champions in the premier MRF single-seater.
Mumbaikar Biren Pithawalla from N1 Racing won the Indian Touring Cars championship while Chennai's Srinivas Teja from Performance Racing won the Indian Junior Touring Cars.
Viswas Vijayaraj from Nellore representing DTS Racing was the winner of the Formula LGB 1300 championship and Lonavla's Dhruv Chavan survived massive battles through six races over the weekend and won the championship in the Polo Cup.
Diana Pundole, the mother of two from Pune, became the first female driver to annex the title in the MRF Saloons category.
Incidentally, she celebrated her 28th birthday on Friday last.
"But I didn't touch my phone because I wanted to focus on this weekend's races. I can't describe the feelings now but I'm very happy, of course," she said.
MRF Formula 2000
Seventeen-year-old Jaden set a scorching pace to score his eighth win in 10 outings from pole position in the Race 1 on Saturday. However, on the final day on Sunday, Jaden could not add to his eight wins, as he finished second behind Bengaluru's Chetan Surineni in both races. But the 17-year-old from Shillong, clinched the title on Saturday itself, as he accrued sufficient points to annex his maiden championship with Surineni in second spot behind him.
