CTT aims to ‘evolve’ as participation falls

Third-party apps, communication and innovative courses are at the top of the Cycling Time Trials to-do list in the fight to attract new and lapsed riders to the sport.

CTT is currently working with weather app MyWindsock to explore greater time trial-focused functions, explained board member Andrea Parish, while better communication between HQ and members, and a look at innovations such as off-road courses are also on the menu.

“Nothing stays the same,” she said. “We have to evolve.”

Parish was speaking to Cycling Weekly in the wake of the release of a Powerpoint presentation sent out to CTT’s District bodies by the board. It examined riders, events and courses, chiefly between 2017 and 2022, and outlined rather starkly the scale of the challenge facing CTT.

This challenge includes a drop in open rides by around 45% since 2017, from 63,000 to 35,000 per year.
