Ways to repurpose the waxy string
1 REPAIR EYEGLASSES IN A PINCH Just as you’re about to curl up with a book, you find that a screw fell out of your reading glasses. The save: Thread a piece of floss through the holes missing the screw and tie a knot near the frame, then snip off the excess. The floss will hold the glasses together so you can continue to enjoy your reading session.
2 Safely remove a tick from Fido
To lift a tick without touching it, tie a 3" length of dental floss in a loop, and place it over the tick where the head touches your dog’s skin. Next, gently and steadily pull the floss straight back. Place the tick in a sealed bag for vet inspection later or flush it down the toilet.
3 Truss meat perfectly
The last time you tried trussing your roasted chicken, you pulled it out of the oven only to discover it came untied while cooking! Instead of regular string, try using unwaxed, unflavored dental floss to truss the poultry. The nylon in the floss is tougher than twine and won’t weaken when it gets warm and damp. You’ll have a delicious, evenly roasted chicken every time.
