WE CHERISH THE FUN AND MEMORIES MADE outside during summer, but come August, we're over the heat and left dealing with pesky beauty bothers like chafing, excessive sweat, melting makeup and heat rash. Luckily, we found the simple two-step remedies that reverse these woes and keep you cool at the same time. Find the one that will work best for you.
THWART HEAT RASH
Time spent in sizzling temperatures can inflame sweat glands, which ends up trapping sweat in pores, resulting in a prickly rash on the body. Thankfully, it's simple to prevent or fix.
STEP 1: "Exfoliating once or twice a week can remove dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores that can lead to heat rash," says Hannah Kopelman, M.D., a New York-based dermatologist and host of The Derm Club podcast. She suggests using St. Ives Radiant Skin Pink Lemon & Mandarin Orange Scrub (CVS.com), as it contains gentle lemon peel powder that won't leave skin feeling irritated.
STEP 2: If a heat rash still arises, apply a gel made with lidocaine and aloe, like Australian Gold Lidocaine Aloe Gel (Amazon.com). Lidocaine quells any pain, while aloe soothes irritation and offers a lasting cooling sensation for skin.
