Elaine Rutherford, 63, is from Ayrshire in Scotland
It was seeing a photo of myself at my brother’s 60th birthday party, five years ago, that made me realise I had to do something about my weight. I was 16st 8lb and plagued with health problems.
I’d been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was taking six tablets a day to control that. I was taking another six for high blood pressure and cholesterol, and I had pain from my arthritis, plus I felt tired all the time and my mobility was poor.
I had fallen into bad eating habits, filling up on junk food and binge eating sugary snacks. So I signed up with Weight Watchers and watched the pounds fall away. There are no foods you can’t eat, you just need to stick to the Points® system to make sure you’re not eating too much. Encouraged by the leaders and the other dieters at my weekly meetings, I kept going. Lockdowns were stressful and I regained 2½st, but once meetings were back on, I was determined to lose it all again – and more.
