UPGRADED PARS (SA) 

Work upgrading the outback’s Public Access Routes (PARs) has been underway in South Australia for the last few months after earlier flood damage. PARs are important for tourism and they allow the Australian outback to be explored by 4x4 enthusiasts.

PARs are not classed as roads, nor are they part of the formal road network; they are unimproved and unsurfaced dirt tracks intended to provide four-wheel drive access in dry conditions. They were established to provide access to point-of-interest sites that could only be accessed by crossing pastoral leases, such as conservation parks, national parks and historic sites. Thanks to PARs, the need for lessee permission is not required.
