Why has Hollywood, the very place that began to embrace body diversity, returned to glorifying extreme thinness? Where did the progress go, asks news journalist Isabel Webster

It's DEEPLY WORRYING

This year's SAG Awards, along with the Oscars, were, without a doubt, a celebration of talent and storytelling. But let's not kid ourselves - what we saw on those red carpets was more than just artistry; it was a parade of emaciated-looking stars, each seemingly competing to be the thinnest. The message couldn't have been clearer: skinny is sadly back, and with a vengeance.

One of them was Demi Moore, at 62 years old, showing off arms as sharp as her cheekbones. Anyone who remembers Moore from the 90s – when she famously embodied a healthy, curvy figure in movies such as Ghost and Indecent Proposal – would likely have been taken aback by her current appearance. Once embracing confident, empowered women with curves, Hollywood is now seeing a troubling return to ultra-thin celebrity culture, and I, for one, find it deeply worrying.
