An overview of the effects in tendons
We often hear that a horse has ‘done a tendon’ when referring to an injured or lame horse, but how is a tendon actually injured? A tendon is a tough band of fibrous connective tissue that connects muscle to bone. The main components of a tendon are the tenocytes (tendon cells) and the extra cellular matrix (collagen, elastin and ground substances). These microscopic components are what make the tendon capable of withstanding tension.
