I was involved in horses from an early age. I was a member of the local Pony Club and Mum was secretary to the Devon and Somerset Staghounds for 18 years. My stepfather hunted the Exmoor foxhounds and Minehead Harriers. I took a degree in urban estate management and then tried to fulfill my dream of point-to-pointing and eventing before joining the army.
At the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, I was part of the modern pentathlon team, which allowed me to be released from some of the exercises – always a bonus! I joined the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery (RHA) where I passed the AMEC (Advanced Military Equestrian Course) for instructors and also gained the BHSAI (British Horse Society assistant instructor) qualification. During my time at the King’s Troop RHA, I represented Great Britain’s military eventing team in France and Sweden, along with 30 rides point-to-pointing.
As a section commander of the Left Section of the King’s Troop RHA, we were responsible for funeral duties.
