Showjumping competitions now offer millions to winners but this is not the case across disciplines. H&H investigates.
AN extra €1million (£848,600) bonus for showjumpers has turned the spotlight back towards prize money in equestrian sport.
Major supporter Rolex has added an extra €1.75m to its showjumping grand slam fund plus a fourth venue of Indoor Brabant in the Netherlands.
If a rider wins the three original grand slam grands prix in succession (Aachen, Spruce Meadows “Masters” and Geneva) they will win the €1m bonus. But now an extra €1m is on offer if a competitor wins all four in a row, as well as a €500,000 (£424,250) to any rider who wins two of these classes in a row. There is also a €250,000 bonus to any rider who wins two of the four within four successive qualifying shows.
This is on top of prize money offered by the individual shows.
