Campaigners say the move would give riders with disabilities more opportunities to compete at international level
Members of international reining have been working to incorporate the para discipline into the FEI’s body of sports.
The campaign has gained momentum and high-profile supporters including British para dressage riders Lee Pearson, Ricky Balshaw and Fiona Durston, who won team silver at the 2017 World Para Reining Championships.
Lisa Coulter, who has represented Canada at the World Equestrian Games, said she founded World Para Reining with the FEI structure in mind.
“To be incorporated into the FEI would accomplish one of our biggest goals,” she told H&H, adding that the sport has “changed riders’ lives”.

My greatest moments have been following my best friends over Ledbury hedges. Eventually, I focused on eventing – I did juniors and under-21s. Then I got a four-year-old, Bertie, and took him up to what would be four-star today.
