Alexander and Florian Deopito took their Mercedes 350SLC to a narrow victory on the 2018 PlanaiClassic, held from 4-6 January. Competitors on the Alpine event had to tackle heavy snow, ice, slush, rain and even hailstorms.
Tests ranged from the special stages at the Niederoblarn airfield – which was mostly shrouded in fog – and the horse-racing track at Gröbming to the 200km Hochwurzen Trophy through the Schladming-Dachstein region. As a sign of things to come, only 12 crews managed to complete the opening Dachstein stage within the permitted 10 minutes.
