I love old Speedway solos and of course the sidecars are crazy stuff which I could watch forever as those guys are simply insane – it’s great viewing.
I first caught this ride many years ago at a show in Bendigo but, unfortunately, couldn’t track down the owner. However, as luck would have it, I was at the recent Broadford Bike Bonanza and there it was, being trundled around the speedway track.
Built and owned by Lewis McEwan, he has a genuine passion for Harley-Davidson and he’s built a humble stable of race bikes, both dirt and tarmac.
Lewis proudly has the only H-D KR/XR/XLR racing team in Australia going under the banner of Fat City Racing Team – a collective of mates riding on his machines bar one. They’ve known each other from their teenage years and now enjoy their older years racing old Harleys.
Fat City Racing’s ethos is simply to have a lot of fun. Lewis’ mechanical mentor, Max Wells, has a lot of influence on his passion for Harleys and life in general, and helped get this idea off the ground.
