In the December/January edition of the magazine we spoke about the Legend Promotion – a 1957 Chevy Apache that was built as a giveaway car to be won by one lucky person.
The car was part of a promotion by Playboy Deodorant and Clere for Men. The truck was built by the guys at King’s Customs Garage and the final result outdid all expectations.
Clarence Davidson andJohan Scholtz from King’s Customs in Benoni have been making waves in the car building industry this year and were approached by the guys from Amca Products with regards to building this years Legends Custom car. Their requirements were simple. They wanted it black, low to the ground and bad ass.
Clarence had always wanted to build a coppered-out 1957 Chevy Pickup and this was a great opportunity to do so. He says “I have always had a passion for building Classics so when Amca approached me to build them a Pickup, I decided to recreate the one that I had dreamt about”.
In the previous article, we covered the build of the suspension along with the bodywork that was done by N&S Auto Body in Benoni and all the chrome that was redone in bronze by Anderbolt Electro Plating. We left off with the truck being ready for assembly.
When it came to the interior, they wanted to keep it classic. Benoni Upholsters did the leather bench seat and carpets and all the rest was done inhouse at King’s Customs. The digital gauges and steering wheel were imported via Jayce’s Classic Spares.
All the original glass was re-used, the scratches polished out by Steward from Scratch Removal. The fuel tank had to be unique so the guys got creative and used a cylindrical copper tank with a mechanical fuel gauge on the actual tank and leather belts to hold it in place. The straps were made by the master, Dion Korkie.
We asked them what will be next and apparently, there is a 1936 Chevy Bisquane Low Rider on the cards for the next giveaway. So keep reading the magazine for more details on the build and how to enter the next competition.
