Spotless Classic cars in Knysna has built up a name for themselves over the last 6 years as one of the top car restoration companies in South Africa.
The E-type Jaguar has been classed as one of the most beautiful cars of all time and when you stand next to one it is easy to see why. However, when this 1964 E-Type Series 1 3.8L rolled across the floor of the Spotless workshop for the first time, it was in a really bad state. The car was purchased from a client of theirs Mr A. Krahe, who is well known in the classic car industry. He did not have the energy to restore this specific E-Type. The plan was clear moving forward – restore this E-Type to Concours standard with few modern upgrades along the way.
We just want to explain that modern upgrades are not something we would normally feature in the magazine. There was no LS swop nor a four pod caliper upgrade. Concours cars are allowed certain small upgrades however, the rest have to be as original as possible down to the colour of the pipes, original stickers and even original details on the upholstery, for example the stitching.
The E-type had been previously restored but the job was not a good one. The Team at Spotless had to start by undoing everything the previous company did.
