Regular readers may recall the feature on The British Rubber Co. in our February 2017 issue, particularly, comments from Tom Card, the company’s Proprietor, on reproducing vintage tyre patterns in various sizes. In a follow-up to the article, Scott Lambert talks exclusively to Tom about exciting new developments.
"Goodyear agricultural tyres are in British Rubber's DNA!” Tom Card boldly states. “We have a historical connection with Goodyear and we have continued our relationship with Titan who, of course, bought the license to Goodyear. A large and growing part of our business is supplying and servicing the vintage tractor market and I am always impressed with the passion that restorers and enthusiasts have for their tractors... it never ceases to amaze me.
“When I purchased The British Rubber Company it was a great shame that the Goodyear factories in Europe and Turkey had been closed down, leaving the tyre moulds present effectively unused. Due to this, we started importing Goodyear cross-ply tyres from America and while good quality, they were essentially more in line with the American market, rather than the European market, in terms of their patterns.
