We try to camp in the bus at least 5 times per year, some are better than others. Being in the woods, in our bus, with our family around us is our happy place. When you are camping in the great state of Washington, keep an eye out for the tie dyed top through the trees.
We bought the bus in 2012, while my wife was out of town in Singapore. It was one of the most terrifying purchases I’ve ever made alone. We were about to buy my wife’s dream car and she wasn’t even here to look at it. With a torn top and some rust spots, it ran well and the previous owner had a nice book of records, so I pulled the trigger on one of the best decisions of my life. First impression on seeing it was, ‘she’s gonna kill me’ because of the canvas and the rust, but closer inspection revealed a pretty solid bus with a good mechanical background.
We had a 1978 tin top VW bus back in the day, that was my daily driver before we ‘got into’ VWs. We just had it because it was cool and I was an aircooled VW lover. We had to get rid of that ride because of some financial issues and we regretted it the moment it was gone. We decided (and by we, I mean her) that we needed another bus and it should be a camper. My lovely bride searched for about a year before this one popped up, at a price we could manage, and she sent me to go get it.

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay
The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.
