As a young brand trying to make its own name in the gruelling smartphone industry, we sit down with honor’s Business Director Zhao Zhiwei to talk about honor’s popularity in Malaysia, amongst other things.
Business Today: With honor being in the Malaysian market for some time now, how would you say the progression has been in terms of overall growth, popularity, sales etc.etc.?
Zhao Zhiwei: In my personal opinion, it is a little bit lateral. Previously, honor’s strategy has always been focused exclusively online. In a way of trying to open our below-theline (BTL) coverage, we have been collaborating with our distributors in putting a physical honor store in tier one, tier two and even tier three cities. This has been the biggest change from going online to offline. Comparing business from last year to now, we still have plenty of investments into above-the-line (ATL) advertising and even BTL advertising with our partners and distributors. For this year, we’re adjusting and trying to rebuild the value of honor to make it different in terms of portfolio. By the end of this year, the market will see honor with a much stronger attitude to rebuild its brand while bringing clearer value to the customer.
BT: And how do you view honor’s popularity in Malaysia? Would you say it’s a steady growth or is it stagnant?
Zhao: If we’re comparing with the bigger brands like Samsung for example, honor still has some ways to go as we’re still young. However, we still have our fans and with their support, we will steadily grow from the end of this year to 2018.
