Hit the road or go off it

Not really new to India, if one remembers the rugged Willy's designed Jeeps of the post-war years, it now makes a grand re-entry with two global SUV icons: the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee. They were introduced at a launch ceremony held at the majestic Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur. This time around, however, the brand intends to entrench itself firmly on Indian soil with plans of starting local production next year at its manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon, near Pune. It also plans to sell the newly introduced models through a network of 10 Jeep distribution outlets called Jeep Destination Stores, in nine Indian cities by the end of this year.
