Anushka Sharma Talks About Balancing Power With Glamour

Like always, she’s talking 200 words per minute. Words coil around each other, as she leaves a trail of unfinished sentences. And yet the clarity of her thoughts shine through. She talks with passion, with integrity and a dash of humour uniquely her own. You want to hear her talk. Because you know it’s not coming from a space of pretence or artifice. That’s the way with Anushka Sharma. What you see is what you get with her. She’s warm but not overtly friendly. That smile though lights up her eyes. And you know her heart is in the right place. With Virat Kohli, actually. Jokes aside. If there’s one thing she wont talk about, it’s her personal life. She’s learnt it the hard way. You can’t blame her for trying to protect her privacy, after the way the media went hammer and tong at her.

We are sitting in her 20th floor apartment in the ’burbs. Dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, without an iota of make up on her, she looks like she’s never had a bad hair or bad skin day ever. As the sun sinks into the Arabian sea outside, our conversation picks up tempo. The actress has just signed on some prestigious projects like Aanand L Rai’s next and Yash Raj Productions’ Sui Dhaga with Varun Dhawan. She has started her third production Pari. She’s been having quite a run at the box office these days, notching up hits like one would pick roses in a garden. No wonder then, she is on every filmmaker’s wish list. She refuses to crow about her achievements neither is she coy about them. She wears them as casually as her white shirt. She admits she’s a reluctant star. If she hankers for something, it’s her peace of mind. That’s what floats her boat. And that what adds to her appeal. Excerpts from a freewheeling conversation...
