Eat play love

Her style shenanigans find huge cheerleaders at home and beyond. As an actor, she’s in sync with her sensibilities – Raanjhanaa, Neerja, PadMan, Veere Di Wedding, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa… scale her spectrum. As a wife, she’s enjoying the universe that’s hers for keeps. While as a woman hers is an ongoing conversation with the self. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is a celebration – of every phase, every curve. Whether it’s whipping up Sindhi cuisine for her family in lockdown or jogging in her sun-kissed garden in Delhi, it’s all about gratitude for Sonam. The girl born with the silver spoon also has a heart of gold, which beats for those not in the same ‘boat’ as hers. Excerpts…

WHAT’S YOUR ROUTINE DURING THE LOCKDOWN?

I follow the same routine every day because it keeps me sane. My husband wakes up at 5:30 am. I wake up between 6:30 – 8 am. I have jeera pani and two glasses of hot water with lemon. Then I make coffee for myself. I walk on the treadmill or around the house like a crazy person for 40 minutes. It makes me feel good. Then I do some Surya namaskars. The fact that I have the space to do that is amazing. Then I go to the kitchen and begin cooking for the family.

WHAT ALL HAVE YOU BEEN COOKING?

Regular khana. Like today I made Sindhi turai, spinach and chawal khichadi. My mother and mother-in-law both didn’t cook because they didn’t have to. The only reason I know cooking is because I went to boarding school. My Nani (maternal grandma) was a good cook. I wanted to be like her. You tend to want to do things your mother didn’t do. Thank God! Otherwise we’d be eating bread and butter every day because our chef doesn’t stay with us. One of our staff, who lives with us, helps me with the cooking.
