Sidharth Malhotra finally feels at home in the industry. Anuradha Choudhary listens to the outsider who has built inroads.
As his car snakes its way from Yash Raj Studio to his apartment at Mount Mary, Bandra there’s no way you can take your eyes off his chiselled face. That razor sharp jaw line, the aquiline nose, everything screams the quintessential hero looks. Yes Sidharth Malhotra is handsome. And it’s more than just his Punjabi good looks. Handsome they say is as handsome does. And it can be safely said that Sidharth has done enough to merit a mention in the most promising GenNext actors list. Hasee Toh Phasee and Ek Villain bear testimony to his latent talents. Brothers might’ve missed the mark. But he was appreciated. And one flop doesn’t a career break. Right now, his focus is on Shakun Batra’s Kapoor And Sons and of course debutant director Nitya’s Kal Kisne Dekha, which he has begun shooting in Scotland already. The actor is excited about the future alright. On the eve of his departure, manoeuvring through the heavy traffic in Mumbai, our conversation changes many lanes...
What would you count as your USP as an actor?
Adaptability. To adapt to different genres and to be able to play both soft and tough roles. Hasee Toh Phasee was a box-office hit because it was a smaller film but people liked it. In Ek Villain the heroism came in and the film was revered too. I can adapt myself. I can adjust to a soft character and a hard character at the same time.
Perception is that you’re serious. Do you have a crazy, wild or fun side?
