Manoj Bajpayee tells Suman Sharma that the most demanding aspect of his role in Aligarh was to bring forth the loneliness.
It takes guts to step out of your comfort zone and attempt something contrary to your nature. Manoj Bajpayee is no stranger to risks. In fact, his acting career is a primer on how to navigate uncharted waters and carve your own niche. He made the human side of gangsters come alive in Satya (1998), played a disgruntled police officer to perfection in Shool (1999), an evil incarnate in Aks (2001), an abductor who falls in love with his victim in the Partition drama Pinjar (2003) and eventually came into his own as a coal mafia don in Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012). Currently, he has been lauded for his controversial role in Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh, where he played Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, the real-life Aligarh Muslim University professor demonised for being a homosexual.
