Three years after returning to screens, thanks to her role as matriarch Rebecca Pearson in This Is Us, Mandy Moore’s elation in receiving her first Emmy nom for the emotional drama last year was a long time coming. After finding fame as a singer, thanks to her catchy 2000 hit Candy, Mandy, 35, moved into films, starring in 2002’s A Walk to Remember. But by the time she was 30 her career had ground to a halt and the dejected star was on the verge of moving home to Florida to go back to school. This Is Us came along just in time…

Creator Dan Fogelman recently gushed about his show’s leading lady, explaining that her turn in the series with its fourth season screening later this year, proves that Mandy’s always been a huge talent.

‘This is a 35-year-old woman playing a 60-something mother acting opposite grown men playing her sons. Mandy Moore is doing something insane on national TV right now,’ he enthused on Twitter.

Dan’s gamble on casting Mandy paid off, and her transformative turn as mum-of-three Rebecca Pearson from her early 20s to her older years often has us crying all the tears!
