DAME EMMA THOMPSON ON WHY HER LATEST FILM ROLE PUSHED HER BOUNDARIES AND HOW SHE FELT ABOUT BARING HER BODY
‘I'D NEVER STOOD IN FRONT OF A MIRROR WITHOUT JUDGING'
Dame Emma Thompson has been a regular on our TV screens as of late. From supporting her husband Greg Wise on Strictly Come Dancing, to showing off her own moves during An Audience With Adele. But now the 62-year-old is back on the big screen for her new movie, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. The Oscar-winning actress plays a widowed schoolteacher called Nancy Stokes, who hires a male escort for a night.

The film had its premiere during the recent virtual Sundance Film Festival, and Emma revealed how she felt about disrobing for the role during Sundance’s Cinema Café discussions.

“It’s very challenging to be nude at 62,” confessed the star as she opened up about preparing for her nude scene at the end of the film.

Emma has never been one to shy away from a challenging role, from starring as Gareth Peirce in In The Name Of The Father, to playing Elinor Dashwood in Sense And Sensibility.

It was during filming for the 1995 period drama that she met her husband Greg, but Emma recently revealed that the actor, now 55, actually pursued their co-star Kate Winslet first.

“Before he did the job, he went to see a friend of his who was a bit witchy and she said he would meet his future partner on the film. He assumed it wasn’t me because I was married and quite a lot older than him so he thought it might be Kate,” she said.

“He took her to Glastonbury, and she was so bored, and he thought, ‘This isn’t going to work, who can it be?’” It later turned out to be Emma.
